Plastic Free Eateries Workshop & Info Session


The past two years have seen a groundswell of community concern around use of single-use plastics and their impact on the environment; and a huge effort across Phillip Island & San Remo's eateries to reduce disposable plastic packaging. From coffee cups, to straws to cutlery, many cafes, restaurants and other venues have taken positive steps to choose ocean-friendly packaging alternatives such as compostables (i.e. corn starch), bamboo and cardboard or paper. However, how to properly dispose of some of these items remains unclear; Can they go in the green bin? Can they be composted at home? Or are they just ending up in landfill and the environment?

This workshop will bring together Bass Coast Shire Council, Abicor Southern (packaging supplier), B-Alternative (earth-friendly products) and other businesses working to reduce single-use plastics to answer your questions, hear your thoughts and ideas and provide you with solutions.

Topics will include:

· Recyclable and compostable packaging & what Bass Coast Shire Council does with it.

· Reusable alternatives to disposable packaging,

· Soft plastics and redcycle,

· Composting organic waste,

· Ocean-friendly takeaway packaging and suppliers,

· Educating and enticing customers to BYO reusables.
